The end of the semester is always the busiest time of the year, but it’s also my favorite. In between the frantic finishing up of assignments that are suddenly due, the CCC is full of activities and people hanging out and taking a break. We continue with our full schedule up until finals week. When we return from Thanksgiving break, we finally get to decorate the Center for Christmas! It’s a lot of work, but we play Christmas music and sing along, and end up having a lot of fun and loving the result. I love seeing the Center all dressed up for our Lessons and Carols event (a Christmas service we do at the end of every fall semester). We then keep the decorations up all throughout Finals week.
As crazy as it sounds, I love Finals week at the CCC. The Center is open all day long and we pull out the tables make our own separate islands to spread out all of our study materials. And then we get to work. Everyone comes and goes throughout the day, heading off to group projects, returning library books, or going to take an exam (with a chorus of “good luck,” and “you got this!” following them out the doors). Everyone studies their own work, but we all study together. When someone becomes frustrated with their paper writing or studying, others offer advice or a brief welcome distraction. If a few of us are in class together, we quiz each other and help each other understand the material.
While finals week is crazy and stressful, the CCC makes it significantly better. Everyone there is going through the same thing and we’re all there for each other, which makes the perfect end to a semester.
