The last week of classes means two things—Devil Goat Day and Senior Table Talk. Devil Goat Day is a quirky UMW tradition where those graduating in odd years are devils and those graduating in even years are goats. This is one of the few days of the year when you can feel the excitement and school spirit as soon as you step foot on campus. Students arrive early and wait in line to receive a free shirt and compete in games to earn points for their team. Students take pride in their mascot and CCC members are no exception. We take pictures in our respective devil or goat shirts and repeatedly insist that our team is better than the other. However, at the end of the day, this rivalry is just friendly competition.
This day also coincides with our Senior Table Talk. Every year, the last Table Talk of spring semester is dedicated to our graduating seniors. We share our favorite stories and memories for each graduate to show how much they have meant to us over the years. This day is always very emotional as we not only celebrate their accomplishments but are also reminded of how much they’ll be missed. We always say that the CCC is more of a family than a school club and this Table Talk really displays that.
As the semester comes to an end, I am reminded of how important the CCC is to me and how lucky I am to have found such a great community. It’s not every day you met people so welcoming, caring, or supportive and I am grateful to have them in my life.
